At-Home Photo Sessions. What are they and how to plan for them.

You may have noticed there's a growing trend with photo sessions lately. It's been one of my favorite ways to photograph families or couples and I'm so happy to see it's getting positive feedback.

I'm talking about Documentary At-Home sessions. If you don't know what that means, or how you could possibly see yourself doing one, then this article is for you! I'm answering some of the most common concerns people have with the thought of using their home as the location, so check it out!

Concern #1 - Our house is a mess, it's not super cute or the way I'd like it to look.

Your home is a truly intimate location and that's what makes it so beautiful and unique. Documentary sessions at the heart are all about capturing your family life in a real and authentic way. These are photographs that are meant to be cherished and loved by YOU because they express your favorite things about that person or time in your life. So don't worry if there's dishes in the sink or clothes on the floor because it shows realness & relatability,

Concern #2 - I think we're too boring at home, wouldn't a nice park be better?

Parks can be great and if your a family/couple that loves activities, adventure and being outdoors then that's a great way to express that side of you. But what about including the time it took to get ready and then coming back home to relax? At-home sessions doesn't mean we have to stay indoors. It's more about getting the complete picture.

Concern #3 - We aren't the outdoorsy type, so now what?

There is nothing better then doing nothing with the ones you love. Like staying in bed and sipping on your morning coffee together, watching an old movie with popcorn, or simply cooking a meal or baking your grandmothers cookie recipe. It's the little things that make the biggest impact. It's about whatever you do to spend time together, you can slow down & chill out or play games & make a mess.

And the best thing about a session at home, is you don't have to worry about the weather!

Documentary At-Home Sessions are great for Engagement photos, Couples/Family photos, anniversaries, and maternity.

Thank you!
